A Front Yard Wedding on White Lake
Charlotte & Jared | Whitehall, MI
I really dislike when photographers say a wedding is their favorite. I think it’s really rude to all the brides and grooms that have worked so hard planning out their day. It’s so special. I don’t have favorites, my own wedding day is actually my favorite lol. However, a backyard (or in this case front yard) wedding always resonates with me. I enjoy the simplicity of an outdoor wedding with the comfort of familiarity.
Charlotte & Jared are so fun! They really chose to do what they wanted to do for their day. Their ceremony was held in Charlotte’s mother’s front yard with chairs in a half moon circle around where they stood. Rather than walking down the aisle & standing, they had their bridal party seated. I loved this idea because they were actually able to relax & see the faces of their friends as they made their commitment to each other. We took all of our photos down the road at the local yacht club beforehand and that left them to immediately jump into their celebration with their family and friends.
The entire day was so very relaxed & meaningful. Each part of the day seemed well thought out - including the food! Charlotte & Jared said they thought why not have everything they enjoy?! The Cheese Lady provided the most delicious cheeses during cocktail hour, there were sushi appetizers for each table, and a pasta bar for dinner.
But my most favorite part was the inclusion of their pup, Whiskey. Not only did he walk Charlotte down the aisle with her dad, but he walked back down the aisle with her & Jared. This guy hung around all morning while the ladies got ready, and was just the sweetest, content little guy. He even sat intently watching his parents as they said their vows.
We ended the evening with sunset photos on White Lake and everyone partied it up in the tent next to the house. As I was leaving, an intense game of Flippy Cup was being had and it sparked joy in my heart for my former college self, but also just that feeling of casual celebration between your close friends.
I could reiterate this over and over again - it doesn’t matter what makes sense or what’s traditional. This is your celebration. Make it yours. I think Charlotte & Jared did just that - it was a perfect day.
